Furosemide belongs to the class of diuretics that cause the elimination of water from the body, as well as the elimination of potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium. It is most commonly used to treat edema and high blood pressure. Lasix is a very strong diuretic and can have a dramatic effect on the flutes and electrolytes in the body. If adequate potassium levels are not maintained, serious complications may occur in the heart. So it is worth noting that furosemide is risky to use without medical supervision.
Athletes use diuretics for stretching and usually for short periods of time. Those who participate in competitions where a light weight is required (such as boxing) use it to reach the desired weight quickly. Such an athlete may lose weight significantly a few days before the competition, and then return to normal weight in a few hours after the end of copetition, with the discontinuation of the diuretic. Bodybuilders use diuretics before contests to crush as best they can by eliminating subcutaneous water.
Lasix is usually found in tablets of 20, 40 or 80 mg, and as an injection solution of 10 mg / ml.
Furosemide is a very strong diuretic, and the misuse of such a medicine to improve sports performance is a very risky practice. These drugs can cause death, such cases being rare.
The negative effects that can occur with the use of Lasix are: hypokalaemia (excessive elimination of potassium), hyponatremia (excessive elimination of sodium), hypomagnesemia (excessive elimination of magnesium) and hypocalcemia (excessive elimination of calcium). Also, an increase in bicarbonate in the blood can be detected. Symptoms of such an imbalance are: dry mouth, thirst, weakness, lethargy, restlessness, muscle cramps, low blood pressure and gastrointestinal disorders. Other, more rare side effects include anorexia, cramps, diarrhea, nausea, limb numbness, dizziness, headaches, vision disorders, anemia, skin irritation.
Portives use Lasix for short periods of time (several days), usually in oral form. Doses are different from individual to individual, usually starting from a low dose, and will increase slightly. The initial dose is 20 mg, and the maximum dose should not exceed 80 mg. It is not advisable to use it for more than 4-5 days.
It can be combined with Aldacton to prevent the elimination of potassium. Usually 50 mg Aldactone and 20 mg Lasix are used; this equates to about 40 mg of Lasix, but without eliminating so much potassium. These drugs are active for many hours in the body so it is not advisable to take them several times a day.
The injectable variant of Lasix is administered intramuscularly or intravenously, the effects appearing fleshy and after a few seconds after administration. This method is the most common among bodybuilders, being easy to observe the effects and so the dose can be adjusted. It will usually be given 10-20 mg of the injectable substance.
