No Gym access: what to do now?

No Gym access: what to do now?
Because of the COVID-19 virus spread, many countries have been (and will be) on lock down for a while. This obviously means not having access to a gym.⁣

But.. no gym equals to no progress or even muscle loss.. what can we do about it? Can we prevent it? Should we be worried? ⁣

I've got maaaany questions on the matter and here's what I think about it:⁣

To be honest, we really can't do much. Or at least that's the case, unless you own a home gym. The best we can do is to train with what we have, adapting to the situation and creating resistance with heavy objects/doing bodyweight stuff.⁣

Is that optimal?⁣

Most likely not, especially for us that want to build more muscle or at least maintain muscle mass while dieting: if we lack the stimulus that has to be 'heavy enough' to be ???????????????????????????????????????? to allow the cascade of events that lead to muscle hypertrophy, chances are we're not going to get bigger, and actually, we're most likely going to lose size and strength depending on the length of this period. ⁣

Should we be worried about it?⁣

Nope. While I understand the frustration of many, it's important to note that 'muscle memory' is real and it always occurs after a period of detraining! ⁣

Even though you may experience muscle atrophy in the short term, you're not losing actual muscle cells, just its size. You'll quickly re-gain it all back at a much faster rate than you previously did when first gaining that muscle. Don't worry too much about it. ⁣

The only way we're going to win this fight (as fast as possible) is to stay at home. Plain and simple. The faster we do this, the faster we'll be able to get back to normality and regain (and gain even more) our muscle mass! ⁣

Here are my own recommendations for you all:⁣

✅ If you have a home gym, this situation shouldn't change much of your routine. You can continue making progress.⁣

✅ If you don't have a home gym, that doesn't mean you should let go of your fitness & health. You can train for the fun of it, using body weight exercises

✅ Don't worry about muscle loss. You'll regain it quickly! ✅ Stay at home. That's the only way we're going to win this!
